Agra (Uttar Pradesh): At least two people lost their lives and five others were injured after a wall of an under-construction house collapsed in Agra on Wednesday, police said.

According to officials, the incident occurred in a residential locality where construction work was underway. The wall, which had been built recently, reportedly had not dried or gained sufficient strength. Preliminary investigation suggests that the owner had poured water in the area, leading to moisture accumulation within the structure. Due to the excess water and inadequate curing time, the wall suddenly gave way.

Eyewitnesses said the collapse happened without warning, trapping several labourers and nearby residents under the debris. Locals rushed to the spot and began rescue efforts before police and emergency teams arrived. The injured were pulled out and immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Doctors confirmed that two individuals were declared dead on arrival, while five others sustained injuries of varying severity. Some of the injured are reported to be in stable condition, though a few remain under observation.

Police have registered a case and initiated an inquiry to determine whether negligence in construction practices led to the tragedy. Officials are also examining whether proper safety measures were followed at the site.

Senior administrative officers visited the spot and assured strict action if any lapses are found. Authorities have urged residents and builders to strictly adhere to safety guidelines, especially during construction activities.

Further investigation into the incident is underway.
