AAP Sarpanch Shot Dead During Wedding Ceremony in Punjab’s Tarn Taran

Tarn Taran (Punjab): In a shocking incident, a sarpanch associated with the Aam Aadmi Party was shot dead during a wedding function in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district, triggering panic at the venue and raising concerns over law and order in the region.

According to police officials, the incident occurred late in the evening when the sarpanch was attending a marriage ceremony along with family members and supporters. Eyewitnesses said unidentified assailants opened fire at close range, causing chaos among guests. The victim sustained critical bullet injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack may have been the result of personal rivalry or local political tensions, though authorities have not ruled out other angles. Police teams have launched a manhunt to identify and arrest the accused. CCTV footage from the wedding venue and surrounding areas is being examined to trace the attackers.

Senior police officials reached the spot soon after the incident and assured strict action. “We are investigating all possible motives. The culprits will be arrested soon,” a police officer said.

The killing has sent shockwaves through the local community, with party workers and residents expressing grief and anger. Leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party condemned the attack and demanded swift justice for the victim’s family.

Notably, this is the second such incident in recent weeks. Last month, another sarpanch linked to the AAP was shot dead at a wedding hall in Amritsar, raising serious concerns about targeted attacks on local political representatives in the state.

Political leaders across party lines have called for enhanced security measures and a thorough probe into the recent spate of violence. Meanwhile, the victim’s family has demanded a speedy investigation and exemplary punishment for those responsible.

Police presence has been intensified in the area to prevent any further escalation of tension as investigations continue.
