Ahmedabad to Roll Out Fully Digital, AI-Based Smart Parking System Under Smart City Plan

Ahmedabad: In a major push to ease traffic congestion and streamline urban mobility, Ahmedabad is set to introduce a fully digital, AI-powered smart parking management system across the city.

The initiative is being undertaken under the Smart City Mission, with Ahmedabad Smart City Development Limited (ASCDL) initiating the tender process for the implementation of an AI-based video analytics smart parking solution.

 Smart Parking System

Key Features of the Smart Parking System

According to officials, the new system will use artificial intelligence and advanced video analytics to monitor parking spaces in real time. Cameras installed at designated parking zones will detect vehicle movement, track occupancy, and update availability data instantly.

The system is expected to:

  • Provide real-time information on vacant parking slots

  • Reduce time spent searching for parking

  • Minimise traffic congestion caused by vehicles circling for space

  • Improve transparency in parking fee collection

  • Enable digital payment options

Citizens will be able to check parking availability through a mobile app or digital display boards installed at key locations.

Boost to Urban Mobility

City authorities believe the AI-driven system will significantly improve traffic flow in busy commercial and residential areas. Illegal parking and manual ticketing issues are also expected to reduce with automated monitoring and enforcement mechanisms.

Officials stated that integrating digital technology into parking management will not only make the process more efficient but also enhance revenue tracking and accountability.

Implementation Plan

Under the proposed plan, multiple on-street and off-street parking locations across Ahmedabad will be brought under a unified digital platform. The AI-based system will analyze vehicle data while ensuring compliance with privacy norms.

The project aligns with the broader Smart City objectives of improving civic infrastructure, leveraging technology for governance, and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

Once implemented, Ahmedabad will join a growing list of Indian cities adopting intelligent transport systems to tackle rising traffic challenges in rapidly expanding urban areas.

Authorities expect the rollout to take place in phases after the tender process is completed and the implementing agency is finalized.
