AIMIM Backs RJD Candidate Hours Before Rajya Sabha Polling, Tightens Contest for Fifth Seat

In a significant political development just hours before the Rajya Sabha elections, the All India Majlis‑e‑Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) announced its decision to support the candidate of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), intensifying the contest for the crucial fifth seat.

The announcement came at a critical moment when the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is reportedly falling short of the required numbers by three votes to secure victory in all five Rajya Sabha seats from the state. Despite its confidence of sweeping all seats, the alliance’s arithmetic has become more complicated following AIMIM’s decision.

According to political sources, RJD is now banking on the support of AIMIM’s five MLAs along with the lone legislator of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) to strengthen its chances in the closely fought election. With these additional votes, the opposition camp hopes to challenge the NDA’s claim of a clean sweep.

The Rajya Sabha polling is expected to witness intense political maneuvering as both sides attempt to secure the required numbers. The ruling alliance has been engaged in last-minute consultations with its partners, while the opposition is trying to consolidate support from smaller parties and independent legislators.

Political observers say AIMIM’s move could play a decisive role in determining the outcome of the fifth seat. If all pledged votes remain intact, the contest could become extremely tight, making every vote crucial.

The results of the Rajya Sabha polling are likely to reflect the evolving political equations in the Assembly and could signal shifting alliances ahead of future electoral battles.
