Assam: 28-Year-Old Woman Allegedly Gang-Raped by Seven Men in Front of Boyfriend; Two Arrested

A 28-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by seven men in Assam in a shocking incident that has triggered outrage across the region. Police confirmed that two accused have been arrested, while efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects.

Incident Took Place at Night

According to preliminary information shared by police, the woman was with her boyfriend when the group of men allegedly accosted them. The accused reportedly assaulted the couple and then sexually assaulted the woman in front of her partner.

The incident is said to have occurred in a relatively isolated area. Following the assault, the survivors approached the police and lodged a complaint, leading to the registration of an FIR.


Two Accused Arrested

A senior police official stated that the victim was able to identify two of the alleged perpetrators. “The victim identified two people, who were subsequently arrested, while efforts are on to identify and nab the others,” the officer said.

Police teams have launched a manhunt to trace the remaining accused. Raids are being conducted at multiple locations, and authorities are examining CCTV footage and local intelligence inputs to track down those involved.


Medical Examination and Investigation

The survivor was sent for a medical examination, and statements of both the woman and her boyfriend have been recorded. Investigators are also collecting forensic evidence to strengthen the case.

Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against all those found guilty. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita dealing with sexual assault and criminal intimidation.


Public Outrage and Demand for Justice

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with local residents and rights groups demanding swift justice and stronger measures to ensure women’s safety.


Senior police officials reiterated that the investigation is being treated as a priority and that the remaining accused will be arrested soon.
