At Least 18 Killed, 20 Injured in Factory Blast in Nagpur

At least 18 people were killed and around 20 others injured in a massive explosion at an industrial unit in Nagpur on Tuesday morning. The blast occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. at a factory owned by industrial explosives manufacturer SBL Energy.

According to preliminary reports, the explosion ripped through a section of the factory premises, causing extensive damage to the structure and triggering panic among workers and nearby residents. Many of the victims were reportedly on duty when the blast took place.

Emergency services, including fire brigades, ambulances, and disaster response teams, rushed to the site soon after the incident. Rescue operations continued for several hours as authorities searched for survivors trapped under debris.


Casualties and Medical Treatment

Officials confirmed that 18 people lost their lives in the explosion, while at least 20 others sustained injuries, some of them critical. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities said the death toll could rise as some of the injured remain in serious condition.


Cause of Blast Unknown

The exact cause of the explosion is yet to be determined. Forensic teams and technical experts have been deployed to examine the site and ascertain whether the blast was triggered by a technical malfunction, negligence, or mishandling of explosive materials.

Police have cordoned off the area, and a detailed investigation has been initiated.


CM Orders Probe

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra has ordered a thorough inquiry into the incident and directed officials to ensure strict action if any lapses are found. He also instructed the district administration to provide all necessary assistance to the victims and their families.


Compensation Announced

The State government has announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹5 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy. In addition, ₹2 lakh will be provided to the next of kin of each deceased from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

Local authorities have assured that the injured will receive free medical treatment and necessary support.
