📰 Banas Bio-CNG Model Goes National; Gujarat Earmarks ₹60 Crore for Expansion

The innovative Bio-CNG initiative pioneered by Banas Dairy is gaining nationwide attention, with Gujarat government announcing an allocation of ₹60 crore to scale up the model across the state.

The Banas Bio-CNG model converts cattle dung and organic waste generated by dairy activities into compressed biogas (CNG), offering a sustainable solution for waste management while producing clean fuel. The initiative has been widely appreciated for promoting circular economy practices in rural areas.

Encouraged by its success, the Gujarat government now plans to establish around 10 Bio-CNG plants in a phased manner, primarily through cooperative milk societies. These plants will be set up in regions with strong dairy networks, ensuring a steady supply of raw material.

Officials said the expansion will not only boost renewable energy production but also provide additional income streams for farmers. By monetizing cattle waste, the project supports rural livelihoods and reduces environmental pollution.

The Bio-CNG generated from these plants can be used as an alternative fuel for vehicles and industrial purposes, helping reduce dependence on fossil fuels and lowering carbon emissions.

Experts believe the model has strong potential for replication across India, especially in states with robust dairy sectors. The success of Banas Dairy’s initiative is being seen as a benchmark for integrating agriculture, energy, and sustainability.

The ₹60 crore allocation is expected to cover infrastructure development, technology deployment, and capacity building for cooperative societies involved in the project.

With growing focus on clean energy and rural development, the expansion of the Bio-CNG model marks a significant step toward sustainable growth and environmental conservation in Gujarat.
