New Delhi, February 5, 2026:India’s cab-hailing sector is set to witness a major shift today with the official launch of Bharat Taxi, a government-backed ride-hailing platform built on a cooperative model. The app will be formally launched at 3 pm in New Delhi by Union

Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah.

Bharat Taxi Launches Today

Bharat Taxi aims to emerge as a strong alternative to private cab aggregators such as Uber and Ola, focusing on affordability, transparency, and greater benefits for drivers. Unlike existing platforms run by private companies, Bharat Taxi has been designed around a cooperative framework, where drivers are stakeholders rather than just service providers.

According to official information, the initiative seeks to strengthen the cooperative movement in India while ensuring that taxi services remain citizen-centric and driver-friendly.

The model is expected to reduce commission burdens on drivers and promote fair earnings, aligning with the government’s broader push to empower workers through cooperatives.

The launch was confirmed by All India Radio (AIR) through a post on social media platform X, which stated that Amit Shah would inaugurate the Bharat Taxi app on February 5, 2026. The post highlighted that the platform would enhance the cooperative sector and provide reliable, accessible transport options to citizens.

With its official rollout, Bharat Taxi is expected to intensify competition in India’s fast-growing urban mobility space. The app’s performance, pricing strategy, and acceptance among drivers and commuters will be closely watched as it takes on established players in the market.
