Bhupinder Hooda Confident of Congress Victory in Haryana Rajya Sabha Polls, Dismisses Cross-Voting Concerns

Chandigarh: Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Haryana, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, has expressed strong confidence that the Indian National Congress will secure victory in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from the state.

In an interview with The Hindu, Hooda said the party’s legislators are united and dismissed concerns about possible cross-voting during the polling. He asserted that Congress has the required support and that its candidate will emerge victorious in the contest.

Hooda said the party leadership is in constant touch with its MLAs and there is no reason to fear defections or voting against the party line. “Our legislators are committed to the party, and we are confident of winning the seat,” he said.

The Congress leader also launched a sharp attack on the current state government led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Criticising the Chief Minister’s leadership, Hooda described him as a “Chief Minister on deputation,” suggesting that the state government lacks independent authority and is being run under central influence.

According to Hooda, the ruling government has failed to address key issues facing the people of Haryana, including unemployment, rising prices and challenges faced by farmers. He said the upcoming Rajya Sabha election is an important political test that will reflect the strength of the opposition in the state.

The Rajya Sabha contest in Haryana has drawn significant attention, as both the ruling BJP and the Congress are working to consolidate support among legislators to secure the seat.

Political observers note that while the ruling alliance maintains a numerical advantage in the Assembly, the possibility of strategic voting and tight margins has kept the contest politically significant.

Hooda reiterated that the Congress remains confident about the outcome and said the party is prepared for the electoral challenge, emphasizing that unity within its ranks will play a key role in the result.
