Jharkhand Firing Case: Bihar Judge’s Wife Shot in Jharkhand; Husband Allegedly Paid ₹2 Lakh for Attack Amid Divorce Dispute, Three Arrested

Godda: In a shocking case that has sent ripples across judicial and administrative circles, Godda police in Jharkhand have solved the firing incident involving the wife of a Bihar judge within 72 hours, arresting three accused in connection with the attack. The victim, Vandana Kumari, was shot at while returning home after appearing in court, allegedly as part of a murder plot linked to an ongoing divorce dispute.

The incident occurred on January 17 in Gandhi Gram area under Pathargama police station limits. Vandana Kumari, wife of a judge currently posted in Samastipur, Bihar, was attacked by unidentified assailants when she was returning after giving testimony in a court case. She sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.

Divorce dispute led to murder plot: Police

Addressing a press briefing, Godda Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar said the attack was the result of a conspiracy allegedly hatched by Vandana Kumari’s husband, Santosh Kumar Sah, amid a bitter divorce case pending between the couple.

“During investigation, it came to light that the husband planned the murder of his wife due to personal disputes arising out of the divorce proceedings,” the SP said.

According to police findings, Santosh Kumar Sah allegedly paid ₹2 lakh to hired assailants to carry out the attack. The money was reportedly routed through his younger brother, Subodh Kumar Sah, who acted as a mediator between the judge and the shooters.

Three accused arrested, hunt on for main conspirator

Police teams conducted raids at multiple locations and arrested three accused persons, including the shooters and intermediaries involved in executing the plan. Firearms and other incriminating materials have also been recovered.

Investigators clarified that Santosh Kumar Sah was not present at the crime scene. However, based on evidence and statements of the arrested accused, police have issued a notice summoning him for questioning. Further legal action will be decided based on his response and the outcome of the investigation.

Case raises serious concerns

The case has raised serious concerns due to the involvement of a serving judicial officer in an alleged criminal conspiracy. Senior police officials said the investigation is being conducted in a fair and transparent manner, without regard to the status of those involved.

“We are collecting documentary evidence, call records, and financial transaction details to strengthen the case,” the SP added.

Police have not ruled out further arrests as the probe continues. The incident has once again highlighted the alarming extent to which personal disputes can escalate into violent crimes.
