Bijapur: Two Maoists Killed in Encounter, ₹5 Lakh Reward Each

Two alleged Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, police officials said on Friday. The exchange of fire took place during an anti-Naxal operation in a forested area of the district.

Encounter During Search Operation

According to police sources, a joint team of security personnel was out on a search and area domination operation following intelligence inputs about Maoist movement in the region. As the forces advanced into the forest, they reportedly came under fire from armed cadres.

Security personnel retaliated, leading to a gunfight that lasted for some time. After the firing stopped and the area was combed, two bodies were recovered from the spot.


Maoists Identified

The slain Maoists have been preliminarily identified as Hichami Madda and Manki Podium. Police said both were active members of the outlawed Maoist organisation and were allegedly involved in multiple incidents of violence in the region.

Officials stated that the duo carried a reward of ₹5 lakh each on their heads, announced by the State government for their capture.


Arms and Materials Recovered

Security forces recovered firearms, ammunition, and other Maoist-related materials from the encounter site. The seized items are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.


Ongoing Anti-Maoist Operations

Bijapur district, located in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, has witnessed frequent encounters between Maoists and security forces. Police said intensified operations are being carried out to curb insurgent activity and restore normalcy in remote areas.

Senior officials reiterated their commitment to continuing anti-Maoist campaigns while also appealing to insurgents to surrender and join the mainstream.
