📰 Bird Flu Outbreak in Bilaspur: 4,400 Chickens Dead, Surveillance Intensified

A bird flu outbreak has been reported in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh, where nearly 4,400 chickens have died at a government poultry farm in the Koni area, triggering concern among authorities and prompting immediate containment measures.

According to Dr. G.S. Tanwar, Joint Director of the Veterinary Department, the deaths occurred between March 19 and March 24 and were caused by a viral infection identified as avian influenza (bird flu). The sudden spike in mortality raised alarms, leading officials to send samples for laboratory testing, which confirmed the presence of the infection.

In response, the state administration has intensified surveillance in and around the affected zone. Rapid Response Teams have been deployed to monitor the situation closely, and strict biosecurity measures are being enforced at the poultry farm to prevent further spread of the virus.

Authorities have also initiated culling and sanitization procedures as per standard protocol. Movement of poultry and related products in the surrounding areas has been restricted, and nearby farms are being inspected to detect any signs of infection at an early stage.

Officials have reassured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to contain the outbreak and that there is no immediate cause for panic. However, residents and poultry farmers have been advised to remain cautious, report unusual bird deaths, and follow safety guidelines issued by the Animal Husbandry Department.

The incident has once again highlighted the need for strict monitoring and preventive measures in poultry farming, especially during seasonal changes when such viral outbreaks are more likely to occur.
