📰 BJP Seeks Action Against Mamata Banerjee Over Alleged MCC Violation

The Bharatiya Janata Party has approached the Election Commission of India, seeking action against Mamata Banerjee for alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during ongoing political activities in West Bengal.

A BJP delegation, which included Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Kiren Rijiju, and party leader Sukanta Majumdar, submitted a formal complaint to the poll body. The delegation alleged that the West Bengal Chief Minister made “grave and disturbing public statements” during multiple rallies, which they claim could influence voters and disrupt the electoral process.

According to the complaint, the BJP has accused Ms. Banerjee of using language and making remarks that “pose a serious threat to free, fair, and peaceful elections.” The party has urged the Election Commission to take immediate and strict action to ensure adherence to the MCC and maintain the integrity of the electoral process.

The Election Commission of India is expected to examine the complaint and review the statements in question before deciding on any course of action. Officials may seek reports from state authorities or issue notices if a prima facie violation is found.

Meanwhile, the development has intensified the political confrontation between the ruling All India Trinamool Congress and the BJP in the state. While the BJP has raised concerns over alleged misconduct, leaders from the Trinamool Congress are likely to counter the claims, calling them politically motivated.

The issue has added to the charged political atmosphere in West Bengal, where election-related activities are in full swing. Observers say the Election Commission’s response will be closely watched, as it could set the tone for enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct in the state.
