Bomb Threat Disrupts Patna Civil Court Proceedings; Pappu Yadav’s Bail Plea Left Unheard

Judicial proceedings at the Patna Civil Court were brought to a standstill on Monday (February 9, 2026) after an email threatening to blow up the court परिसर triggered panic and forced the suspension of work for the day. As a result, the bail plea of Independent MP Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, could not be heard.

According to officials, the threatening email was received by court authorities in the morning, prompting an immediate alert to the police and district administration. Security agencies swiftly evacuated the premises, and judicial work was suspended as a precautionary measure.

Police teams, including bomb disposal squads and sniffer dog units, rushed to the spot and conducted extensive searches across the court complex. However, officials remained tight-lipped about the findings, and no explosives were detected till the filing of this report.

“The threat was taken seriously considering the sensitivity of the location. All necessary security protocols were followed,” a senior police officer said, adding that investigations were underway to trace the origin of the email.

This marks the second bomb threat targeting the Patna Civil Court in less than a month, raising serious concerns about court security and the misuse of threat emails to disrupt judicial processes.

Due to the security scare, the hearing on Pappu Yadav’s bail plea, related to a forgery case dating back to 1995, was postponed. Lawyers and litigants present at the court premises were asked to leave, causing inconvenience to hundreds of people who had scheduled hearings on the day.

Authorities have registered a case in connection with the threat and cyber experts have been roped in to track the sender of the email. Additional security measures are expected to be put in place in the coming days to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

Normal court operations are likely to resume once security agencies give a complete clearance.
