Mumbai: Security agencies were put on high alert after bomb threats were received at several prominent locations in Maharashtra, including the Maharashtra Legislature, the Bombay High Court, and the Bombay Stock Exchange, officials said.

According to preliminary information, the threats were reportedly sent to authorities claiming that explosives had been planted at multiple locations across Mumbai. Apart from the legislature complex, a bank branch and other key institutions were also mentioned in the threatening communication.

Following the alerts, police and security personnel immediately launched intensive security checks at the affected premises. Bomb detection and disposal squads, along with sniffer dog teams, were deployed to carry out detailed searches inside and around the buildings.

Officials said the areas were temporarily secured while the teams conducted inspections to ensure the safety of employees, visitors, and nearby residents. Security at the legislature complex and other sensitive institutions was significantly tightened.

Authorities suspect that the threats may have been sent through email or anonymous communication, though investigators are still verifying the exact source. Cybercrime teams have also begun tracing the origin of the messages to identify the individuals responsible.

So far, no explosives have been recovered, and initial assessments indicate that the threats could be a hoax. However, police officials said they are treating the matter with utmost seriousness because the locations involved are among the most important administrative, judicial, and financial centres in the state.

An investigation has been launched to identify the sender of the threats, and authorities are analysing digital footprints, IP addresses, and surveillance footage as part of the probe.

Security officials have urged the public not to panic and to rely only on official updates while the investigation continues. 🚔
