Book from Home: Lucknow Metro Launches QR Ticket Facility

Lucknow: In a move aimed at enhancing commuter convenience and promoting contactless travel, the Lucknow Metro has launched a QR-based ticketing facility, allowing passengers to book tickets from home.

With this new system, commuters can purchase tickets digitally through their mobile phones. The tickets will be generated in a QR (Quick Response) code format, which can be scanned at the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates at metro stations for seamless entry and exit.

Officials said the initiative is designed to reduce queues at ticket counters and promote faster boarding, especially during peak hours. Passengers can book tickets via the official mobile application or designated digital platforms linked to the metro service.

In addition to mobile QR tickets, paper QR tickets will also be available for those who prefer offline booking. These can be obtained from ticket counters as well as Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) installed at metro stations. The printed QR code on the paper ticket will function in the same way as the digital version when scanned at entry and exit gates.

Metro authorities stated that the introduction of QR ticketing aligns with the broader push toward digital payment systems and smart mobility solutions. It is also expected to minimize physical contact and streamline passenger flow within stations.

The facility is being rolled out across all operational corridors of the Lucknow Metro from today. Officials have encouraged commuters to adopt the digital QR option for quicker access and a hassle-free travel experience.

With this upgrade, the Lucknow Metro joins other urban transit systems in adopting advanced ticketing solutions to improve efficiency and commuter satisfaction.
