A political storm erupted in the Assembly of Chhattisgarh as Opposition members from the Congress party strongly confronted the ruling BJP over allegations of illegal opium cultivation in the state.

The issue was raised by Congress MLAs, who created a ruckus in the House, accusing BJP leader Vinayak Tamrakar of being involved in opium farming activities in Durg district. The Opposition further alleged that the leader was operating under the protection of the ruling party, allowing such illegal activities to continue unchecked.

As the matter was brought up, heated exchanges took place between treasury and Opposition benches, leading to disruptions in proceedings. Congress legislators demanded a thorough investigation into the allegations and called for strict action against those found guilty, regardless of their political affiliations.

The BJP, however, strongly denied the accusations, terming them “baseless” and politically motivated. Party members accused the Congress of attempting to deflect attention from key governance issues by raising unverified claims.

Amid the chaos, Assembly officials struggled to maintain order as sloganeering and protests intensified inside the House. The Speaker had to intervene multiple times to restore normalcy and continue legislative business.

Sources indicated that the state government may order an inquiry to verify the claims surrounding opium cultivation in the region. Officials are also expected to examine whether any illegal farming activities are being carried out in parts of the district.

The controversy has once again highlighted the growing tensions between the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress in the state, with both sides engaging in sharp political confrontations ahead of upcoming electoral challenges.

Further developments are awaited as the issue is likely to remain a flashpoint in Chhattisgarh politics in the coming days.
