🏑 Coach Sjoerd Marijne Urges Indian Players to Improve Finishing, Praises Navneet’s Hat-Trick

The head coach of the Indian women’s hockey team, Sjoerd Marijne, has called on his players to be more precise and clinical in front of goal, even as he praised the team’s recent performance and highlighted the importance of collective effort.

Marijne made the remarks after India’s impressive display against Wales women's national field hockey team, where forward Navneet Kaur delivered a standout performance by scoring a hat-trick. The coach applauded Navneet’s attacking instincts and finishing ability but stressed that the victory was the result of teamwork rather than the efforts of a single player.

According to Marijne, while the team created several scoring opportunities during the match, there is still room for improvement in converting those chances into goals. He said that becoming more accurate and composed in the final third will be crucial for the team as it prepares for tougher international competitions.

Despite pointing out the need for sharper finishing, the Dutch coach expressed satisfaction with the overall coordination, work rate, and attacking intent displayed by the squad. He noted that the players showed good understanding on the field and executed many of their strategies effectively.

Marijne also credited Janneke Schopman Wonink, who previously worked with India’s junior team, for helping lay a strong foundation for the current squad. He said the developmental work done at the junior level has made his job easier, as several players already possess a solid understanding of modern hockey systems.

The coach added that building on this foundation will be key to sustaining the team’s progress and ensuring consistent performances in international tournaments.

With players like Navneet delivering strong performances and the team continuing to develop under experienced guidance, the Indian side appears determined to refine its attacking efficiency and maintain momentum in upcoming competitions. 🏑
