Congress Leader Stages Headstand Protest Over ‘False’ Gunfire Case

In an unusual form of protest, a local Congress leader performed a headstand outside a police station to protest what he described as a “false” case registered against him in connection with alleged celebratory firing during a religious procession earlier this month.

Protest Over Shiv Barat Case

The controversy stems from a police case filed after reports of celebratory gunfire during a Shiv Barat procession held on the occasion of Mahashivratri. Authorities had registered an FIR against several individuals, alleging that shots were fired in the air during the procession, endangering public safety.

The Congress leader, however, has denied the allegations, claiming he was falsely implicated for political reasons. He maintains that he neither possessed a firearm nor participated in any celebratory firing.

Dramatic Demonstration

To register his protest, the leader staged a headstand — a yoga posture known as shirshasana — in front of supporters and media personnel, declaring that he would continue symbolic demonstrations until the case against him is withdrawn.

He alleged that the action was politically motivated and intended to tarnish his image. “This is an attempt to suppress opposition voices. I have faith in the law, but I will not remain silent against injustice,” he said.

Police Stand

Police officials have stated that the case was registered based on video evidence and eyewitness accounts from the Mahashivratri procession. They said the investigation is ongoing and that all accused individuals will be treated as per legal procedure.

Authorities also reiterated that celebratory firing is a punishable offence due to the risk it poses to public safety.

Political Reactions

The incident has sparked a political debate in the area, with Congress workers rallying behind their leader and demanding a fair probe. Meanwhile, rival party members have accused him of resorting to theatrics instead of cooperating with the investigation.

As the investigation continues, the headstand protest has drawn attention on social media, turning what began as a local legal matter into a widely discussed political spectacle.
