Delhi Assembly Privileges Committee to Examine Punjab Police’s Role in ‘Doctored Video’ Controversy

New Delhi:Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Wednesday referred the matter related to the registration of an FIR by the Punjab Police and its subsequent actions in the alleged “doctored” video case involving Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi to the Committee of Privileges, officials said.

According to the Delhi Assembly Secretariat, the Speaker concluded that a prima facie case of breach of privilege exists after examining the response submitted by the Punjab Police. Based on this assessment, the issue has now been formally handed over to the Privileges Committee for detailed examination.

The controversy centres around a video clip of Atishi that was allegedly doctored and later posted on social media platform X by Delhi Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra. The registration of an FIR by the Punjab Police and the manner in which the case was pursued triggered objections, leading to the matter being raised before the Delhi Assembly Speaker.

The Secretariat said the Privileges Committee has been directed to submit a comprehensive report after examining all aspects of the case, in strict accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the Delhi Assembly. The panel is expected to look into whether the actions of the Punjab Police amounted to an infringement of the privileges of the House or its members.

Sources said the committee will seek records, examine communications, and may call concerned officials or stakeholders for clarification as part of its probe. The findings of the committee will play a crucial role in determining any further action by the Assembly.

The development adds a new dimension to the ongoing political confrontation between the AAP and the BJP, with the issue of inter-state police action and legislative privilege now coming under formal legislative scrutiny.
