📰 Diabetology Institute to Be Established in Kalaburagi to Strengthen Specialised Care

In a major step toward improving healthcare infrastructure, the Karnataka government has announced plans to set up a dedicated diabetology institute in Kalaburagi. The initiative aims to enhance specialised diagnosis, treatment, and management of diabetes, a rapidly growing health concern in the region.

According to the State Health Minister, the proposed institute will be part of a broader strategy to establish advanced centres focused on diabetes care across Karnataka. The goal is to provide comprehensive services under one roof, including early detection, treatment, long-term management, and patient education.

The institute is expected to be equipped with modern diagnostic facilities, specialised outpatient and inpatient services, and advanced treatment options tailored for diabetes and its related complications. Authorities also plan to include departments for diet counselling, lifestyle management, and rehabilitation to ensure holistic care for patients.

Medical experts have welcomed the move, noting that diabetes cases have been steadily rising in both urban and rural areas. They emphasised that a dedicated diabetology centre in Kalaburagi would significantly improve access to expert care, reducing the need for patients to travel to larger cities for treatment.

In addition to patient care, the institute is also likely to focus on research and training. It may serve as a hub for studying diabetes trends, developing new treatment approaches, and training healthcare professionals in specialised diabetology practices.

The government believes that such institutes will play a crucial role in strengthening the public healthcare system and addressing non-communicable diseases more effectively. Officials added that similar centres may be planned in other parts of the state in the future.

Once operational, the diabetology institute in Kalaburagi is expected to benefit thousands of patients by providing timely, affordable, and specialised care closer to their homes.
