Earthquake Strikes Lucknow; Epicentre Located in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow:A mild earthquake measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale struck Uttar Pradesh early Friday morning, with tremors felt in Lucknow and nearby districts, officials confirmed.

According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at around 7:32 am. The epicentre was located in Gonda district, while the quake originated at a depth of 10 kilometres, indicating a shallow seismic event.

In a statement, the NCS said:

“EQ of M: 3.7, On: 06/02/2026 07:32:01 IST, Lat: 27.36 N, Long: 82.05 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Gonda, Uttar Pradesh.”

Tremors Felt Across Parts of Central UP

Residents in parts of Lucknow, Gonda, and surrounding areas reported feeling brief tremors, prompting some people to step out of their homes as a precaution. However, the shaking was described as low-intensity and short-lived.

There were no immediate reports of casualties, injuries, or damage to property, officials said.


Authorities Monitor Situation

District administrations have confirmed that the situation remains normal and there is no cause for panic. Disaster management teams are monitoring developments, though no aftershocks have been reported so far.

Seismologists noted that earthquakes of this magnitude are generally considered minor and rarely cause damage, though they serve as reminders of seismic activity in the region.


Uttar Pradesh and Seismic Activity

Several parts of Uttar Pradesh fall under Seismic Zones III and IV, making occasional mild tremors not uncommon. Experts continue to advise residents to follow basic earthquake safety measures and remain alert.
