📰 ‘End of Armed Maoism in Chhattisgarh’; Bastar Development Now Priority: Deputy CM Vijay Sharma

In a major claim on the state’s internal security situation, Vijay Sharma has said that armed Maoist activity in Chhattisgarh has been “completely eliminated,” with only a handful of remaining cadres expected to surrender in the near future.

Speaking on the issue, Sharma asserted that sustained security operations and coordinated efforts by forces have significantly weakened Maoist presence across the state, particularly in the sensitive Bastar region. He added that the focus of the government will now shift decisively towards development and welfare initiatives.

The Deputy Chief Minister emphasised that Bastar, which has long been affected by insurgency, will now see accelerated development in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and employment opportunities. He said the administration is committed to transforming the region and integrating it more closely with the state’s growth trajectory.

According to Sharma, several Maoist cadres have already surrendered in recent months, and those still active are expected to lay down arms soon. Rehabilitation programmes and incentives are being offered to encourage surrenders and reintegration into mainstream society.

However, security experts and observers caution that while Maoist activity may have declined significantly, completely eliminating insurgency is a complex process that requires sustained vigilance. They stress that long-term peace will depend not only on security measures but also on inclusive development and addressing local grievances.

The government’s announcement signals a shift in narrative—from conflict management to development-focused governance—in Chhattisgarh. If sustained, this transition could mark a turning point for regions like Bastar, which have historically faced challenges due to insurgency.

As the state moves forward, all eyes will be on how effectively the administration translates this claim of improved security into tangible development outcomes for local communities.
