The Election Commission of India (ECI) has begun the phased release of West Bengal’s final electoral rolls after completing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. The publication follows judicial oversight and a Supreme Court directive to ensure transparency in the SIR process.

According to official figures:
A significant number of names have been removed from the rolls due to reasons such as death, migration, duplication, and untraceability.
Over 60 lakh electors remain “under adjudication”, meaning their final status (approved or deleted) will be determined after further judicial review.
The electoral rolls published so far show voters classified as “Approved”, “Deleted” or “Under Adjudication” — a first-ever statewide revision of this scale.
📍 Bankura District: Around 1.18 Lakh Names Removed
Data from Bankura district — seen as a politically significant region — shows a net deletion of approximately 1.18 lakh names since the SIR began in November 2025:
The electorate in Bankura was 30,33,830 at the start of the SIR exercise.
The final updated roll published after hearings and scrutiny now stands at around 29,15,000 electors.
Officials clarified that deletions were due to added checks on death records, migration out of the area, duplicate entries, and untraceable voters. However, new eligible names were also included where applications were verified.
