📰 Fresh Plea Claims Jain Temple, Gurukul Existed at Bhojshala Site; Court Seeks Government Response

A fresh legal plea has stirred the ongoing dispute surrounding the historic Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque, with claims that the site once housed a Jain temple and a gurukul.

The petition, filed before a court in Madhya Pradesh, alleges that the Bhojshala complex was originally a centre of Jain religious and educational activity before later transformations. The petitioner has sought a detailed investigation into the historical and archaeological aspects of the site.

During the hearing, government authorities questioned the maintainability of the plea, arguing that it may not qualify as a Public Interest Litigation (PIL). They raised concerns over whether the matter should be entertained under the current legal framework.

After hearing initial arguments, the court granted two weeks’ time to the government to file its objections and responses. The matter has now been scheduled for further hearing on April 2.

The Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque has long been a subject of historical and religious contention, with different groups asserting claims over its origin and usage. The site has witnessed periodic legal and political debates over the years.

Legal experts suggest that the latest plea could add a new dimension to the dispute, especially if the court decides to examine historical records and archaeological findings in detail.

Authorities are maintaining a close watch on the situation, given the sensitive nature of the issue. Meanwhile, all eyes are on the upcoming hearing, which is expected to determine the future course of the case.

The development underscores the continuing complexities surrounding heritage sites in India, where history, faith, and law often intersect.
