Indore Water Contamination Row: Congress MLAs Stage Protest With Bottles of ‘Polluted’ Water in MP Assembly

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly witnessed high drama after Congress MLAs staged a protest inside the Assembly complex over the alleged water contamination issue in Indore.

MLAs Stage

Carrying bottles filled with what they claimed was contaminated water supplied in parts of Indore, Opposition legislators accused the state government of failing to address a serious public health crisis. The protest was held in the Assembly premises in Bhopal as the session was underway.

Allegations of Government Apathy

Congress leaders alleged that several people had fallen ill and that deaths were reported due to the consumption of contaminated water. They claimed the government had not taken adequate corrective steps and was avoiding a detailed discussion in the House.

A senior Congress MLA said, “Despite multiple deaths and serious health concerns, the government has avoided a proper discussion on this issue in the Assembly. This is contrary to democratic values and accountability.”

The Opposition demanded an immediate debate, a judicial or high-level inquiry into the contamination, and compensation for affected families.

Protest Inside Assembly Complex

The MLAs displayed bottles of murky water before the media, alleging that similar water was being supplied to residents in certain localities of Indore. They accused the administration of negligence in maintaining water pipelines and ensuring safe drinking water.

Sloganeering was heard as Congress members called for accountability and immediate action. Security personnel were deployed to maintain order within the Assembly complex.

Government’s Response

While the state government has maintained that steps are being taken to address the issue, officials said that water samples have been collected and tested. Authorities have also claimed that supply lines are being flushed and repaired where necessary.

The ruling party, however, accused the Opposition of politicising the matter and staging a “publicity stunt” during the Assembly session.

Call for Transparency

The controversy has intensified political tensions in the state, with the Opposition insisting on transparency and a structured discussion in the House. Health and civic authorities are expected to submit detailed reports on water quality and remedial measures.

The issue has now become a flashpoint in the ongoing Assembly session, with further confrontations likely if a formal debate is not scheduled.
