šŸ“° ā€˜Insensitive, Reckless’: Supreme Court Pulls Up Haryana Police, Orders SIT Probe in Minor Assault Case

Expressing serious concern over the manner in which the investigation was conducted, the Bench observed that the actions of the police failed to reflect the sensitivity and care required in cases involving minors. The court emphasized that such lapses could further aggravate the trauma of victims.

Taking swift action, the Supreme Court constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising senior women IPS officers to take over the probe from the Gurugram Police with immediate effect.

The SIT includes:

  • Kala Ramachandran

  • Anshu Singl

  • Jasleen Kaur

The Bench also underscored the importance of adhering to established legal procedures and guidelines while dealing with sensitive cases, particularly those involving children. It stressed that law enforcement agencies must act with utmost responsibility and empathy.

The case has drawn widespread attention, with legal experts and child rights activists calling for stronger accountability mechanisms within police forces. Many have welcomed the Supreme Court’s intervention, viewing it as a necessary step to restore confidence in the justice system.

The SIT is expected to submit its findings to the court after completing its investigation, as the judiciary continues to closely monitor the case.

The development highlights the judiciary’s firm stance on ensuring justice and safeguarding the rights of vulnerable victims, especially in cases involving minors.
