Mysuru: Police in Karnataka have intensified action against the illegal sale of Kerala lottery tickets in border areas adjoining Kerala, particularly in regions between Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts.

According to district police officials, two cases were registered on March 9 against individuals accused of illegally selling tickets of the Kerala State Lottery in Yelandur.

Police said the accused were allegedly distributing and selling Kerala lottery tickets despite restrictions on such sales in Karnataka. While Kerala’s government-run lottery system operates legally within its own state, the sale of these tickets is not permitted in Karnataka, making their distribution illegal in the region.

Authorities acted after receiving information about vendors selling the lottery tickets to local residents near the Karnataka–Kerala border, where such activities occasionally take place due to the close proximity of the two states.

During the operation, police seized several lottery tickets and related materials from the accused and initiated legal action under relevant provisions of the law. Officials said the crackdown aims to prevent unauthorised gambling activities and protect residents from illegal lottery operations.

Police also warned that strict action will be taken against anyone involved in the unauthorised sale or distribution of lottery tickets within Karnataka. Surveillance and enforcement in border areas have been strengthened to curb such activities.

Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious and report any illegal lottery sales to the police, emphasising that only authorised and legally permitted activities are allowed within the state. 🚔
