Shimla: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kavinder Gupta was sworn in as the new Governor of Himachal Pradesh at a ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan in Shimla.
The oath of office was administered in the presence of senior state officials, political leaders, and dignitaries. Gupta, a prominent leader from Jammu and Kashmir, had earlier served as the Lieutenant-Governor of Ladakh before assuming the new constitutional role.
After taking the oath, Kavinder Gupta said that the Governor’s position is above party politics and is meant to serve the people of the state impartially. “The Governor does not belong to any political party and works for the overall development of the State and society,” he said while addressing the gathering.
Gupta also expressed his commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and supporting the development initiatives of the state government. He stated that he would work in coordination with the elected government to promote welfare, growth, and good governance in Himachal Pradesh.
Several leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party and other political parties congratulated him on assuming the new office and wished him success in his responsibilities.
Kavinder Gupta has had a long political career and has previously held several important positions in public life. His appointment as Governor is seen as part of the Centre’s effort to place experienced leaders in key constitutional roles.
With his swearing-in, the Raj Bhavan in Himachal Pradesh now has a new head who will oversee constitutional responsibilities and act as the representative of the President in the state.
