Landslides, Cloudburst Wreak Havoc in Himachal Amid Relentless Rain; Schools Shut, Exams Cancelled

Shimla: Continuous heavy rainfall has triggered multiple landslides and a cloudburst in several parts of Himachal Pradesh, causing widespread disruption, road blockages, and damage to property. Authorities have ordered the closure of educational institutions, while postgraduate and B.Ed examinations have been cancelled as a precautionary measure.

🌧 Cloudburst and Landslides

Officials said a cloudburst incident was reported in a hilly area amid relentless rainfall, leading to flash floods and debris flow that damaged roads, vehicles, and nearby structures. Several landslides were also reported along key highways and interior roads, cutting off connectivity to remote villages.

Teams from the local administration, police, and disaster management authorities were rushed to affected areas to clear debris and restore traffic movement. Machinery has been deployed to reopen blocked routes, though intermittent rainfall continues to hamper restoration efforts.

🚫 Schools Closed, Exams Cancelled

In view of the worsening weather conditions and safety concerns, district administrations announced the closure of schools and colleges in affected regions. Postgraduate and B.Ed examinations scheduled in various institutions have been postponed until further notice.

University authorities said fresh dates for the cancelled exams will be announced once the weather stabilises.

🛣 Road and Power Disruptions

Several roads, including state highways, have been blocked due to landslides. Power supply has also been disrupted in some areas after electricity poles and transformers were damaged by falling trees and debris.

Public Works Department (PWD) teams are working round the clock to restore essential services.

⚠ Advisory Issued

The local administration has advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in landslide-prone areas. People living near rivers and streams have been asked to remain alert due to rising water levels.

The meteorological department has predicted continued rainfall in parts of the state, raising concerns about further landslides and flash floods.

Authorities said rescue and relief operations remain on high alert as they monitor the situation closely.
