Lt Gen (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain Sworn In as 43rd Governor of Bihar

Patna: Retired Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain was sworn in as the new Governor of Bihar on Monday, becoming the 43rd Governor of the state since India’s independence. The oath of office was administered at a ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan in Patna.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, both Deputy Chief Ministers, several cabinet ministers, senior bureaucrats and other dignitaries. Leaders from different political parties and top officials of the state administration were also present during the event.


After taking the oath, Lt Gen (Retd) Hasnain expressed his commitment to uphold the Constitution and work for the welfare and development of the state. He said he would strive to strengthen democratic institutions and cooperate with the elected government to ensure effective governance in Bihar.


Chief Minister Nitish Kumar welcomed the new Governor and extended his best wishes, expressing hope that the state would benefit from his vast administrative and leadership experience. Several ministers and officials also congratulated him on assuming the constitutional post.


Lt Gen (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain is a highly decorated former officer of the Indian Army. During his distinguished military career, he served in various strategic roles and commanded the Srinagar-based 15 Corps, also known as the Chinar Corps, which is responsible for security operations in Kashmir Valley.


Following his retirement from the army, Hasnain remained active in public discourse on national security, strategic affairs and international relations, contributing through lectures, writings and policy discussions.


With his swearing-in, Bihar has formally welcomed its 43rd Governor since India gained independence in 1947. The new Governor is expected to play a key constitutional role in overseeing the functioning of the state government and ensuring that governance in Bihar proceeds in accordance with the Constitution.
