Guna: Authorities in Madhya Pradesh have suspended a market official after a video showing a farmer crying at a government mandi while trying to sell his crop went viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage.

The incident occurred at the Nanakhedi Krishi Upaj Mandi in Guna, where procurement activities were reportedly halted following an alleged dispute involving a market inspector. According to officials, the suspension came after complaints that the inspector had misbehaved with farmers and traders, leading to disruption in the purchasing process.

In the viral video, a distressed farmer can be seen breaking down in tears inside the mandi, claiming that he had brought his produce to sell but was unable to do so because procurement had been stopped. The emotional footage quickly spread online and drew sharp criticism from farmer groups and the public.

Local traders and farmers alleged that procurement was suspended due to the inspector’s behaviour, leaving many farmers stranded with their crops. Several farmers said they had travelled long distances to the mandi and were forced to wait for hours without any clarity about when the purchasing would resume.

Following the backlash, district authorities launched an inquiry into the incident. After preliminary findings suggested misconduct, the administration suspended the market inspector pending a detailed investigation.

Officials stated that the government is committed to ensuring that farmers do not face harassment or inconvenience at agricultural markets, and strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible for disrupting procurement operations.

The administration has also assured farmers that purchasing activities at the mandi will continue smoothly and that steps are being taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

The episode has once again highlighted the challenges farmers face while selling their produce at mandis, with many demanding better management, transparent procurement systems, and respectful treatment of farmers by officials. 🌾🚜
