A senior MSRDC official confirmed that approximately ₹5.16 crore will be refunded to vehicle owners who were stuck in the prolonged traffic jam. The refunds will be processed electronically and credited directly to the FASTags linked to the vehicles that passed through toll plazas during the disruption.

The unprecedented traffic snarl had caused severe inconvenience to thousands of commuters travelling between Mumbai and Pune. Long queues of vehicles were reported at multiple stretches of the expressway, with some motorists stranded for several hours without access to adequate facilities.

Following public outrage and widespread criticism, MSRDC conducted a review of the incident. Officials said the decision to refund toll charges was taken as a goodwill gesture to compensate commuters for the hardship faced during the ordeal.

Authorities are also examining the factors that led to the prolonged congestion, including traffic volume, lane closures, and possible coordination gaps. Measures are being considered to improve traffic management and emergency response systems to prevent similar situations in the future.

The Mumbai-Pune Expressway is one of Maharashtra’s busiest corridors, handling a high volume of passenger and commercial traffic daily. The direct credit of refunds to FASTags is expected to ensure a seamless and transparent reimbursement process without requiring motorists to file individual claims.

MSRDC has assured that efforts are underway to strengthen monitoring systems and streamline operations to ensure smoother travel on the expressway going forward.
