Mamata Banerjee Calls for Protests Against LPG Price Hike on International Women’s Day

Mamata Banerjee has called on women supporters of her party to stage protests against the recent LPG price hike and alleged voter list deletions. The appeal was made during a political programme in West Bengal ahead of the observance of International Women's Day.

Call for Statewide Rallies

The Chief Minister urged women associated with the ruling All India Trinamool Congress to organise rallies and demonstrations across the state. She said the protests should highlight the financial burden faced by households due to rising cooking gas prices.

According to Banerjee, increasing LPG prices are directly affecting women, who manage household expenses and daily cooking needs. She asked party workers and women supporters to come out on the streets and raise their voices against the issue.

Allegations Over Voter List Deletions

Apart from the LPG price hike, Mamata Banerjee also raised concerns over alleged deletions of voters’ names from electoral rolls. She claimed that many genuine voters were being removed from the list, which could affect their right to vote in upcoming elections.

The Chief Minister said the protests would also draw attention to what she described as attempts to manipulate voter lists.

Political Tensions Rise

The call for protests comes at a time when political tensions are already high in West Bengal ahead of key elections. The Trinamool Congress has frequently accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of policies that increase the cost of living and impact ordinary citizens.

Opposition leaders, however, have dismissed the allegations and accused the state government of politicising economic issues.

Focus on Women’s Participation

Banerjee emphasised that women should play a leading role in the protests, stating that the demonstrations on International Women’s Day would highlight women’s voices on issues affecting their daily lives.

The rallies are expected to take place in multiple districts across West Bengal, with party leaders and supporters participating in large numbers to express their opposition to the LPG price hike and other concerns raised by the state leadership.
