Mamata Banerjee Condoles Mukul Roy’s Death, Recalls Long Political Association

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday expressed deep grief over the demise of senior political leader Mukul Roy, saying she was “shocked and saddened” by his passing. In a heartfelt message, the Chief Minister recalled their long political association and his significant role in the growth of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) since its inception.

Ms. Banerjee said Mr. Roy had worked tirelessly for the Trinamool Congress from the very beginning, playing a crucial organisational role in expanding the party’s presence across West Bengal and beyond. “He was among those who stood firmly with the party during its formative years and helped build its foundation brick by brick,” she said.


Describing him as a committed political worker, the Chief Minister noted that Mr. Roy had earned acceptance and respect at all levels of the party due to his dedication, organisational skills, and ability to connect with grassroots workers. She acknowledged his contributions during critical political phases, when the party was consolidating its base in the State.


Mr. Roy, who had a long and eventful political career, was regarded as a key strategist in West Bengal politics. Over the years, he remained an influential figure, known for his deep understanding of the State’s political landscape.

Expressing condolences to his family, friends, and supporters, Ms. Banerjee prayed for strength for them to bear the loss. Several party leaders and workers also mourned his death, remembering his organisational acumen and long-standing contribution to the party’s journey.


The passing of Mukul Roy marks the end of a significant chapter in West Bengal’s political history, with leaders across party lines paying tribute to his decades-long public life.
