Minor Kashmiri Hawker Assaulted in Dehradun; Shopkeeper Arrested

A 17-year-old Kashmiri shawl-seller was allegedly assaulted in Dehradun, leaving him with multiple injuries, including a fractured arm. The Dehradun police on Thursday (January 29, 2026) arrested a 50-year-old local shopkeeper in connection with the incident.

According to police officials, the minor, who had come to Dehradun to sell traditional Kashmiri shawls, was attacked following a dispute with the accused. The altercation reportedly escalated into physical violence, during which the teenager sustained serious injuries.

The victim’s cousin, who was present at the scene, also faced assault but managed to escape with minor injuries.


Medical Treatment

The injured minor was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors confirmed a fracture in his arm along with other injuries caused by the assault. He is currently undergoing treatment and is said to be stable.

Police said a medical examination report has been obtained as part of the investigation.


Arrest and Investigation

Acting on a complaint, the Dehradun police registered a case and arrested the accused shopkeeper. Officials stated that further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and the motive behind the attack.

Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken as per the law. Additional police presence was deployed in the area to prevent any tension following the incident.
