Money Heist Probe Intensifies: Karnataka Police Join Goa and Maharashtra in Hunt for Missing Cash-Laden Trucks

Belagavi:The investigation into the sensational money heist involving the theft of two container trucks carrying high-value currency notes has widened, with the Karnataka Police officially joining hands with their counterparts from Goa and Maharashtra to trace the missing vehicles and recover the stolen cash.

Money Heist Probe Intensifies

According to police sources, the theft took place on the night of October 25 near the Karnataka–Goa border, where the two container trucks were allegedly stolen while transporting currency notes estimated to be worth between ₹400 crore and ₹1,000 crore. The incident occurred in the Chorla Ghat area, a strategically located stretch at the tri-junction of Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra, making the investigation complex.

On Sunday, the Belagavi Police joined the multi-state probe and began coordinating closely with Goa and Maharashtra police teams. Officials said the Karnataka police will actively participate in search operations for the missing lorries, believed to be carrying demonetised and high-value currency notes.

Senior police officials stated that multiple teams have been formed to examine CCTV footage, toll plaza records, mobile phone data, and vehicle movement across the three states. The rugged terrain and forested areas of Chorla Ghat are also being searched as part of the operation.

Investigators suspect the involvement of an organised inter-state gang, given the scale of the theft and the logistical planning required to move such a large amount of cash. Police are also probing the origin, ownership, and intended destination of the currency, as well as whether insider assistance played a role.

The case has drawn widespread attention due to the sheer value of the missing cash and the mystery surrounding its transportation. Authorities said further details would be shared as the investigation progresses, while security has been tightened along key routes in the border region to prevent the movement of the stolen currency.

The coordinated effort between the three states is expected to strengthen the probe as agencies work to crack one of the largest cash theft cases in recent years.
