Meerut — Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Meerut Metro project and flag off the Namo Bharat train service today, marking a significant milestone in India’s urban transport expansion.
The Meerut Metro is being described as India’s fastest metro system, with a maximum operational speed of around 120 kmph, setting a new benchmark for intra-city rapid transit.

The Meerut Metro system will operate at a top speed of approximately 120 kmph, significantly higher than conventional metro networks in the country. The project aims to:
Reduce travel time within Meerut
Improve last-mile connectivity
Decongest city roads
Provide modern, energy-efficient urban transport
Officials say the system is equipped with advanced safety mechanisms, modern coaches, and smart ticketing features.
🚄 Namo Bharat Train Integration
Alongside the metro launch, the Prime Minister will also flag off the Namo Bharat train service, part of India’s Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).
The Namo Bharat trains are designed for high-speed regional connectivity, linking major cities with suburban and semi-urban areas. The Meerut corridor is part of a broader plan to enhance connectivity between Delhi and surrounding regions.
