Tension flared at the Panipat refinery after a workers’ protest turned violent, leading to stone pelting and damage to vehicles on the premises, officials said.

Protest Escalates

According to authorities, refinery workers had gathered to press their demands when the situation escalated. The protest, which initially began peacefully, reportedly intensified after security personnel intervened.

Officials said that when personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), deployed at the refinery, asked protesters to remain within a designated area, some of the workers objected to the restrictions.

Stone Pelting and Vandalism

Following the exchange, a section of the protesters allegedly resorted to stone pelting. Several vehicles parked inside the refinery premises were reportedly vandalised during the unrest. Eyewitnesses said that windows of vehicles were shattered and minor property damage occurred in parts of the complex.

Security personnel acted to disperse the crowd and prevent further escalation.

Police Deployment

Local police teams were called in to support CISF personnel and restore order. Authorities confirmed that the situation was later brought under control and normal operations at the refinery resumed under heightened security.

An inquiry has been initiated to determine the exact sequence of events and identify those involved in the violence. CCTV footage from the premises is being examined.

No Major Injuries Reported

Officials stated that no major injuries were reported, though some individuals sustained minor injuries during the commotion. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

The incident highlights the sensitivity surrounding labour-related protests at critical infrastructure facilities, where security protocols are strictly enforced
