Pappu Yadav Granted Bail in 1995 Forgery Case, To Remain in Custody in Separate Patna Matter

Patna: Independent MP from Purnea, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, was granted bail on Tuesday (February 10, 2026) by a special MP/MLA court in connection with a 31-year-old forgery case registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The case dates back to 1995 and pertains to allegations of forgery and related offences. After hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defence, the court allowed bail, observing procedural and legal grounds presented during the proceedings. Details of the specific charges in the decades-old case were part of the trial record, which has been pending for years.

However, despite securing relief in this matter, Mr. Yadav will continue to remain in judicial custody due to his involvement in another case registered at a separate police station in Patna. The hearing in that case is scheduled to be held on Wednesday (February 11, 2026).

Court Proceedings Continue

The MP/MLA court, designated to handle cases involving elected representatives, has been hearing the forgery matter as part of the ongoing disposal of long-pending criminal cases against lawmakers. Legal experts note that several cases against political leaders dating back decades have been fast-tracked in recent years under judicial directives.

Pappu Yadav’s counsel argued that the 1995 case involved old allegations and that the MP had cooperated with the investigation. The prosecution, meanwhile, maintained its position regarding the charges but did not successfully oppose the bail plea.

Political Background

Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, represents Purnea in northeast Bihar as an Independent MP. A prominent and often controversial political figure in the state, he has faced multiple legal battles over the years.

While the bail order offers temporary relief in the forgery case, his immediate release will depend on the outcome of the separate proceedings underway in Patna. The court is expected to hear arguments in the second case on Wednesday.

Further legal developments are awaited as both matters proceed through the judicial system.
