Punjab Police Crack Down on Gangster Networks, Detain Goldy Brar’s Parents in Sri Muktsar Sahib Case

Chandigarh: Punjab Police have arrested Shamsher Singh and Preetpal Kaur, the parents of Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar, in connection with a 2024 extortion and death threat case registered in Sri Muktsar Sahib district. The arrest marks a significant step in Punjab’s ongoing crackdown on organised crime and gangster syndicates operating from abroad.

According to police officials, the case was registered last year after a local resident from Muktsar lodged a complaint alleging that he received extortion threats linked to gangster networks. Investigations revealed financial and communication links connected to the accused, leading authorities to detain Goldy Brar’s parents as part of the probe.

Punjab Police said the arrests are part of a broader strategy to dismantle criminal networks and their support systems within India. “We are targeting not only the gangsters operating overseas but also their local associates and financial facilitators,” a senior police officer stated.

Goldy Brar, a close associate of Lawrence Bishnoi, is wanted in multiple criminal cases, including murder, extortion, and organised crime-related activities. He is currently believed to be residing in Canada and is on the radar of Indian and international law enforcement agencies.

The police have confirmed that further investigations are ongoing to trace financial transactions, property assets, and potential links to other criminal activities. Officials also indicated that more arrests could follow as authorities intensify efforts to curb the influence of gangsters in Punjab.

This development comes amid rising concerns over gang-related extortion cases in the state, prompting authorities to strengthen intelligence coordination and law enforcement actions.
