🏭 PM Modi Inaugurates Micron Semiconductor ATMP Plant in Gujarat’s Sanand

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a major semiconductor facility of Micron Technology in Sanand, marking a significant step in India’s efforts to strengthen its semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.

The plant is an Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP) facility and is considered one of the largest semiconductor investments in India under the government’s semiconductor development programme.

Micron

Key Project Under India Semiconductor Mission

The Micron plant is the largest rupee beneficiary of financial support under the India Semiconductor Mission, which aims to boost domestic semiconductor manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports.

Under the scheme, the Union government is providing a capital subsidy of 50%, while the Gujarat government is offering an additional 20% subsidy to support the project.

Officials say the investment is expected to significantly strengthen India’s role in the global semiconductor supply chain.

Role of the ATMP Facility

The new plant will handle crucial stages in semiconductor production, including assembling semiconductor components, testing their functionality, marking them for identification, and packaging them for distribution.

These processes are essential before chips are integrated into electronic devices such as smartphones, computers, automobiles, and industrial equipment.

Boost to India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem

The facility in Sanand is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs while attracting related industries and suppliers to the region.

Experts say the project could help position Gujarat as a major semiconductor manufacturing hub in India, encouraging further investments in electronics and chip manufacturing.

Strategic Importance

During the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi emphasised the importance of semiconductor manufacturing for technological self-reliance and economic growth. He said the new facility would contribute to building a strong domestic electronics manufacturing ecosystem.

The project is also seen as part of India’s broader push to become a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing and advanced technology industries.

📈 With global demand for chips continuing to rise, the Micron ATMP plant is expected to play a key role in strengthening India’s technology manufacturing capabilities and supply chain resilience.
