Priyadarshan shared the story while reflecting on his career and his long association with comedy films. He said that despite the film not performing well at the box office initially, he was surprised to learn that it had become a favourite for many viewers over time.

The director admitted that the failures of Dhol and Khatta Meetha had affected him emotionally when they were first released. According to him, the disappointment from the poor theatrical response made him rethink his approach to making comedy films.

Priyadarshan said that after experiencing the setbacks, he now feels hesitant and even “scared” to make comedies, a genre he once dominated in the Indian film industry. Over the years, he directed several popular comedy films that became cult favourites among audiences.

However, he expressed satisfaction that films like Dhol and Khatta Meetha, which struggled at the box office during their theatrical runs, have found a new audience on streaming platforms. The director said it is gratifying to see people rediscovering these films and appreciating them years later.

Priyadarshan also noted that the digital era has changed the way films are consumed, allowing movies that may not have succeeded initially to gain popularity over time through online streaming services.

The filmmaker, who has directed films across multiple Indian languages, remains one of the most influential directors known for blending comedy, drama, and strong storytelling. His remarks about stepping away from comedy have sparked conversations among fans who remember his iconic contributions to the genre. 🎥
