Priyanka Gandhi Says PM Modi Offered ‘Nothing New’, Calls for Parliamentary Debate on West Asia

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that his recent remarks on the West Asia situation did not present any new perspective. She stressed that a comprehensive discussion on the issue must take place in Parliament to ensure transparency and democratic participation.

Speaking to the media, Priyanka Gandhi highlighted that her party has already submitted a formal notice seeking a discussion in Parliament on the evolving situation in West Asia. She said such a debate is essential so that all political parties can present their viewpoints and the government can respond to concerns raised by the opposition.

“The notice we have given for discussion should happen so that we can also reply and all sides can put forward their views. It would be good that a discussion happens in Parliament,” she stated, underlining the importance of open dialogue on foreign policy matters.

She further emphasised that issues related to international conflicts and India’s diplomatic stance should not be addressed unilaterally. Instead, they require collective deliberation within Parliament, where elected representatives can question, analyse, and contribute to shaping the country’s response.

Priyanka Gandhi also pointed out that Parliament serves as the most appropriate platform for discussing sensitive global developments, including those in West Asia, given their potential impact on India’s strategic, economic, and diaspora interests.

Her remarks come amid growing calls from opposition parties demanding greater clarity from the government on its position regarding the situation in West Asia. The demand for a parliamentary discussion reflects a broader push for accountability and inclusive decision-making in matters of foreign policy.

The government has yet to respond formally to the opposition’s request, but the issue is expected to gain traction in upcoming parliamentary proceedings, with multiple parties likely to press for a structured debate.
