Probe Ordered After Mirabag Protest in Goa Assembly; WRD Minister to Meet Agitators on March 14

An inquiry has been ordered into the protest staged by Mirabag agitators in the visitors’ gallery of the Goa Legislative Assembly during its proceedings, Speaker Ganesh Gaonkar informed the House.

Goa Assembly

The incident took place on Friday when a group of protesters from Mirabag raised slogans from the visitors’ gallery while the Assembly session was underway. The unexpected protest briefly disrupted the proceedings and drew immediate attention from legislators and security personnel present in the House.

Speaker Orders Inquiry

Addressing the Assembly, Ganesh Gaonkar said that a formal inquiry has been initiated to investigate how the protesters managed to enter the visitors’ gallery and stage the demonstration during the session.

The probe will examine possible lapses in security arrangements and determine whether proper procedures were followed when granting access to visitors inside the Assembly premises.

Protest Over Mirabag Issue

The protesters were reportedly demonstrating against a government project related to the Mirabag area, which has been facing opposition from local residents and activists. They raised slogans demanding that their concerns be addressed and that the project be reconsidered.

The protest comes amid ongoing agitation by villagers and activists who claim the project could negatively affect the environment and livelihoods in the region.

Minister to Meet Agitators

In an attempt to resolve the issue, the state’s Water Resources Department (WRD) Minister is scheduled to meet representatives of the agitators on March 14. The meeting is expected to provide a platform for protesters to present their concerns directly to the government.

Officials said the government is willing to listen to the grievances of residents while ensuring that development projects are implemented responsibly.

Security Review Likely

The Assembly administration is also expected to review security arrangements at the legislative building following the incident. Authorities may introduce stricter entry protocols and monitoring to prevent similar disruptions in the future.

The investigation ordered by the Speaker will determine the circumstances that led to the protest inside the Assembly and recommend appropriate action if any security lapses are identified.
