According to officials, the incident occurred when the Chief Election Commissioner arrived in the city for meetings related to electoral preparations and administrative reviews. As his convoy moved through the area, several individuals gathered nearby and began displaying black flags while chanting slogans demanding that he leave.

Protesters Do Not Claim Political Affiliation

The group involved in the demonstration did not publicly declare allegiance to any political party. However, the protest quickly drew political reactions, with leaders from different parties offering contrasting views on the incident.

Security personnel present at the location quickly intervened and ensured that the situation did not escalate. The convoy continued its movement without any disruption to the scheduled programme.

BJP Blames Trinamool Congress

Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar strongly criticized the protest and accused the ruling All India Trinamool Congress of being behind the demonstration.

Majumdar alleged that the party often uses intimidation tactics and creates an atmosphere of fear to influence political processes in the state. He claimed such actions were aimed at pressuring institutions involved in overseeing elections.

Political Tensions in the State

The protest comes at a time when political tensions remain high in West Bengal over various election-related issues and administrative decisions. The Election Commission has been actively reviewing electoral preparations and addressing complaints from different political parties in the state.

Officials said the Chief Election Commissioner’s visit is part of routine oversight to ensure that election processes are conducted smoothly and transparently.

Security Maintained

Police maintained tight security during the visit and ensured that the demonstration remained under control. No arrests or injuries were reported in connection with the protest.

Authorities said they will continue to monitor the situation and ensure that law and order is maintained during official visits and election-related activities in the state.
