Protests Over Madhya Pradesh Lawyer’s Murder Stall Bhojshala Case Hearing

Demonstrations disrupt proceedings as High Court hearing on ASI survey faces adjournment.

Murder Stall Bhojshala

Indore:Protests following the murder of a lawyer in Madhya Pradesh led to disruptions in court proceedings, stalling the scheduled hearing in the sensitive Bhojshala case. The developments caused delays in the matter pending before the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

According to reports, members of the legal fraternity staged protests demanding swift action in connection with the advocate’s killing. Court work was partially affected as lawyers abstained from proceedings, resulting in the adjournment of several cases, including the much-debated Bhojshala matter.

ASI Survey at the Centre

At the heart of the Bhojshala dispute is a scientific survey conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The survey was ordered by the High Court following an application from the Hindu side seeking a detailed examination of the premises.

The ASI submitted its report to the High Court on July 15, 2024. The findings of the survey are considered crucial, as they pertain to the historical and structural aspects of the site, which has long been a subject of legal and communal sensitivity.

Case Background

The Bhojshala complex, located in Dhar district, has been at the centre of a longstanding dispute regarding its historical identity and usage rights. Petitioners have sought clarity based on archaeological findings, while maintaining that the matter should be resolved through judicial processes.

Court Proceedings Affected

Due to the protests, the High Court bench deferred the hearing to a later date. Officials indicated that fresh dates would be notified once normal court functioning resumes.

Authorities have appealed for calm and assured that the investigation into the lawyer’s murder is progressing. Security has been tightened around court premises to prevent further disruptions.

Further updates are expected as both the criminal investigation and the Bhojshala case move forward.
