According to police officials, the incident occurred around 7:30 am in the Model Town area of Jalandhar, shortly after Oberoi paid obeisance at a local gurdwara. As he was returning to his car, the attackers intercepted his vehicle and fired 8 to 10 rounds, leaving him critically injured inside the car.

Local residents, alarmed by the sound of gunfire, rushed to the spot and informed the police. Oberoi was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Visuals from the scene showed the victim’s car riddled with bullet holes, indicating a targeted and well-planned attack.

Senior police officers reached the spot soon after and cordoned off the area. Forensic teams were called in to collect evidence, including empty cartridges recovered from the site. CCTV footage from nearby locations is being examined to identify the assailants and trace their escape route.

A senior police official said preliminary investigations suggest a targeted killing, though the motive is yet to be ascertained. “All angles are being probed, including personal rivalry, political enmity, and any previous threats. A special investigation team has been formed to crack the case at the earliest,” the official added.

Lucky Oberoi was a known face in local AAP circles in Jalandhar and was actively involved in organisational work at the grassroots level. His killing has triggered strong reactions from party leaders, who condemned the incident and demanded swift action against the perpetrators.

AAP leaders termed the murder “deeply disturbing” and urged the Punjab government and police to ensure law and order in the state. Party workers gathered outside the hospital and Oberoi’s residence, demanding justice and the immediate arrest of those responsible.

Further investigation is underway, and police have appealed to the public to share any information that could help in identifying the attackers.
