Punjab Police File FIR Over ‘Doctored’ Video in Guru Tegh Bahadur Row

The Punjab Police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) over the circulation of an allegedly doctored video linked to a controversy surrounding Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru.

 Guru Tegh Bahadur

According to police officials, the video, which began circulating widely on social media platforms, was suspected to have been manipulated or edited in a way that could misrepresent historical facts and potentially hurt religious sentiments.

FIR Registered After Complaint

Authorities said the FIR was filed following complaints that the video had been deliberately altered and shared online to create confusion and provoke tensions among communities. Police stated that the content appeared to distort references related to Guru Tegh Bahadur, a revered figure in Sikh history.

Investigators have launched a probe to identify the individuals responsible for creating and spreading the alleged doctored video.

Concern Over Social Media Misuse

Officials said the case highlights the growing problem of misinformation and manipulated content being circulated through social media. Police warned that such content could disturb public harmony and mislead people if not addressed promptly.

Cybercrime teams have been tasked with tracing the origin of the video and examining digital evidence, including social media accounts and online platforms where the clip was shared.

Authorities Urge Public Caution

Police have appealed to the public not to forward or share unverified videos or messages related to sensitive religious or historical matters. They also urged citizens to report suspicious or misleading content to authorities.

Investigation Underway

The police said strict action will be taken against those found involved in creating or spreading the doctored video. Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.

The controversy has drawn attention because Guru Tegh Bahadur is widely respected in the Sikh community for his teachings and for defending religious freedom during the Mughal era. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure that law and order is maintained.
