According to officials, the damaged track was discovered late Friday night near Khanpur village, located about 4–5 kilometres from Sirhind railway station. Railway staff noticed irregularities on the line during routine monitoring, following which train movement on the affected section was temporarily halted as a precautionary measure.

Preliminary assessments revealed that a portion of the track had been severely damaged, raising suspicions of foul play. Police teams, along with railway protection personnel and forensic experts, rushed to the spot to examine the site and collect evidence.

A senior police official said that while the exact cause of the damage is yet to be confirmed, investigators are exploring all possible angles, including the use of an explosive device. Samples from the scene have been sent for forensic analysis to determine whether explosives were involved.

Railway authorities acted swiftly to divert or delay trains passing through the affected stretch to ensure passenger safety. Repair work was initiated after clearance from security agencies, and services are expected to resume once the track is declared safe.

Security in the surrounding areas has been intensified, and patrols along railway lines have been increased to prevent any further incidents. Officials have appealed to the public to report any suspicious activity near railway infrastructure.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have assured that strict action will be taken if sabotage is confirmed. Further details are awaited pending forensic findings.
